Don Bacchus was born in
Seattle Washington
on Nov. 15th,
1918 to Augustus (Gus) and
Carolyn (Hugo) Bacchus. He
died on September 19th, 2005,
at the age of 86 at the Martha
and Mary Nursing Home in
Poulsbo, Washington.
Don graduated from Vashon
High School in 1937. He married
Hazel (Peggy) Leighton
September 29th, 1940. They
shared 65 years together,
many of which were spent at
Quartermaster Harbor with family and friends.
Inducted into the army in March of 1943, Don served as a Sergeant in
the U.S. Infantry 3rd Division, Pioneer Battalion, landing in Anzio and
southern France. He received an Honorable Discharge in October 1945.
Don was co-owner of Bacchus Lumber Company until he retired in
1970 for health reasons. In 1972 he sold his share to his brother Sid,
and moved to Hansville, Washington. In 1992 he moved to Poulsbo.
On Vashon, Don was a member of the Sportsmans Club, V.F.W., and a
Mason with the Mark P. Waterman Lodge.
With his great love of the beach and water, Don took pleasure in
swimming and sailing. He also liked hunting trips and travel. He was a
kind man who loved his family and enjoyed life.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Douglas
(Lad), Thomas and Sid Bacchus. He is survived by his wife Peggy of
Poulsbo, son Thomas Bacchus and wife Jan of Ellensburg, daughter
Laurie Bacchus and husband Steve Winquist of Vashon, eight grandchildren
and one great grandchild.
Cremation will be provided by The Peoples Memorial Foundation. At
his request, there will be no service.
