Dolores Mabel Parsons died early Sunday morning, Jan. 20, at the Vashon Community Care Center where she lived from July 2003 until her death. She was 84 years old.
She was born the eldest daughter of Romain and Mabel (Plum) Haroldson in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She graduated from Central High School in Spokane, where she met her future husband, Albert E. Parsons. They married in July 1942 and bore two children, David and Dwayne.
Parsons is survived by her sisters Priscilla Hannenberg of Austin, Texas, and Marjorie Finley of Spokane, and was preceded in death by her older brother Arthur Haroldson. Her eldest son, David, is now known as Father Tryphon and is abbot of All-Merciful Saviour Russian Orthodox Monastery on Vashon Island. Her youngest son, Dwayne, is an author living with his wife, Claudia, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Parsons’ granddaughter, Sarah Parsons, resides in Boston, Mass.
Parsons and her husband moved from Spokane, where Albert — “Big Al” — was assistant pro at Downriver Golf Course, to Sandpoint, Idaho, where he became the pro at the Elks Country Club.
Parsons, having served as organist for many years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spokane, became the organist at First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint. She was a nationally known award-winning piano teacher who taught piano and organ in Sandpoint for many years. The Parsons’ converted to the Orthodox Church and were members of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Post Falls, Idaho.
The funeral took place in the monastery’s temple on Vashon, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 23. Interment was in the St. John Orthodox Cemetery in Post Falls, Idaho, where Parsons was laid to rest next to her husband, who died in 2000. Arrangements were made by Island Funeral Home.
