Chris Allen Van Buskirk
1957-2014
November 23rd, 2014 we lost our beloved Chris.
Chris was a lifelong resident of Vashon Island, devoted family man and cherished friend. He was a kind natured, humorous, good hearted man who was always willing to go above and beyond to help friends and family in any way he could. He was a people person, who loved connecting with friends old and new.
Chris worked for Vashon Sand & Gravel driving cement mixer and dump trucks for over 35 years. Chris took great pride in his work and community. His strong work ethic and friendly spirit set him apart from the ordinary. He would often joke how there was probably not a driveway on this island he hadn’t delivered material down.
Chris enjoyed wrenching on classic cars and boats. A participant and enthusiast of the annual 4th
of July Hydro race, competing
several times from 1976 to as recently as 2012. He won in 1985, engraving the trophy “Victory at last” and again in 1989. He shared his passion of the hydro plane sport with his son, Mitchell who took over driving their boat in 2013
and 2014.
As the sadness of his untimely passing grows into the sunrise of his memory, the family is planning a celebration of Chris Van Buskirk at the Vashon Sportsman’s Club, January 10th at 1:00 pm.
The family is requesting friends, acquaintances, and coworkers to come together for a casual potluck celebration in his honor.
