Bruce Edward Fox
Affectionately know as
Mr. Fox, Bruce, age 79, passed away June 25. He spent the last 50 years of his life on Vashon where he worked and raised his family.
Born in Yakima and raised in Tacoma, he graduated from Stadium High in 1952 and married his high school sweetheart Marilyn that same year. Bruce and Marilyn were married for 60 years during which time he always referred to her as his bride. He put himself through college splitting cedar and building fences, earning a degree in Education. He joined the Navy and spent 2 years in the Korean War.
In 1960 they moved to Vashon where they raised 4 children and Bruce began his career as a 4th, then 6th grade teacher at Burton and Vashon Elementary schools. He became a beloved teacher and from 1960 – 1992 taught 3 generations of families, including a few of his own grandchildren.
He loved boating and the family spent their summers cruising the Canadian Islands, living off the land. Once the kids were grown, he and Marilyn bought a travel trailer and enjoyed many years on road adventures.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn, children Captain Bruce Fox, Mike (Lois) Fox, Rebecca Fox MacDonald, Darren (Diane) Fox, 9 grand children, 2 great grandchildren, sisters Sandy Whitney and Sharron Powell.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and grandson Andy MacDonald.
There will be a memorial service at Bethel Church 11 AM on Saturday, July 14th, 2012. Reception to follow.
