Bobby Ray Lewis, 75, passed away on April 26, 2010 at his home on Vashon Island Washington. He was born in Empire Alabama on July 5, 1934 to Verna and Sylvanus “Sug” Lewis. Bobby was stationed on Vashon in 1956 at the Nike site, where he met his wife Betty and they stayed after his time in the service ended to raise their family. He loved NASCAR, friends, a good time and the Crimson tide. Bobby coached 6 years of Little League, leading the team in 5 consecutive championship seasons. He worked at K2 as the plant supervisor until 1977, when he left to work for the Washington State Ferries for 20 years, retiring in 1997. Bobby will be missed by all that knew him, especially his smile and his sense of humor. Bobby is survived by his wife Betty, his children; Jeanine, Julie, Jerry and Ronnie, his 7 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. A memorial will be held May 8, 2010 at the Sports Men’s club from 1pm-4pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Association at www.vashonheritage.org.
