Bessie Anna Grimm of Port Orchard and formerly of Vashon Island, died March 30, 2005, at her residence at the Stafford Suites Senior Apartments. She was 92 years old.
She was born Dec. 10, 1912, in Wilcox, to Earnest and Minnie (Eschen) Heien.
She attended school in Cambridge, Neb., and helped on the family farm.
Bessie married the Rev. Herman J. C. Grimm on Aug. 2, 1933. He later became a chaplin in the U.S. Air Force and the couple lived on many different Air Force bases in various states.
They retired to Vashon Island in the mid-1960s where Bessie enjoyed her family, home, friends, gardening and church.
Mrs. Grimm moved to Stafford Suites in Port Orchard in 2002. She was a life-long Lutheran and a member of Vashon Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Grimm’s husband and parents died earlier.
Her brother, Orville Heien, who died earlier the same day on Vashon, also was a long-time resident of Vashon. He wrote in Bessie’s high school signature book that he would always be there for her. They were very close, visiting each other as often as possible.
Survivors include her son Herman Dennis Grimm and wife Barbara of Chandler, Ariz., a daughter, Rhodila Kay Allred of Belfair, Wash., grandchildren Barrett Dean Allred and fiance Dawn Haggerty of Tacoma, Darren Russell Grimm and fiance Alicia Newton of San Bruno, Calif., Baudette DeHaven and husband Bill of Belfair, Wash., Gina Faulkner and husband Gary of Austin, Texas, and Deborah Nord of Chandler, Ariz., and great grandchildren Amber DeHaven of Modesto, Calif., Anna Marie Cody DeHaven of Bremerton, and Tanner Nord of Chandler, Ariz.
A family graveside service was April 2 at the Vashon Island Cemetery.
