Avalon “Terry” Startz

Avalon “Terry” Startz died in her home on Maury Island on Sunday, July 5, 2009. Terry was born on July 24, 1923 in New York City, where she lived until after graduation from college. She moved to Los Angeles in 1951, where she brought up three children and worked as a Contract Analyst at Universal Studios. She also distinguished herself as an award-winning photographer and enjoyed and excelled in other crafts, including mosaics.

During the 1970s, Terry took a trip to Vashon and fell in love with the place. She built a house on Maury Island and moved there in 1975.

Terry was admired for her keen intelligence and wit, warm personality and independent spirit. She loved animals and enjoyed walking through the woods and along the beach with her canine friends and neighbors.
