Ardythe Van Reeth
Ardythe Van Reeth died on July 17, 2009, following a short but valiant struggle with cancer. She was born on February 22, 1932 to Carl and Esther Gaide in Melrose Park, IL, a suburb of Chicago.
Ardythe met the love of her life, Richard Van Reeth, on a blind date. They married in 1950 and moved to Tucson, AZ, where they lived for 40 years and raised their two children. After her kids reached school age, Ardythe obtained a degree from Pima Community College. She accepted a position with Hughes Aircraft and worked in several administrative positions until her retirement in 1987.
Ardythe and Dick moved to Vashon in 1997 in order to live close to their son David, niece Susan Doerr, and their grandchildren. She became an active member of Vashon Lutheran Church and was a regular volunteer at Granny’s Attic.
Survivors include her son David of Renton, WA; a brother-in-law, Robert (Barbara), of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren, and eleven nieces and nephews. Ardythe was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dick, her daughter, Diane, her parents, and her sister, Elizabeth Doerr.
Ardythe lived a rich and happy life that included numerous trips to Mazatlan, Mexico and many other destinations in Europe, Africa, and South America. Only six weeks ago, she enjoyed a cruise to Alaska with her family. She loved her book club friends and enjoyed many cultural activities with them.
Ardythe cherished her family, especially grandsons Joey and Danny, who lived with her and Dick for the year following the untimely loss of their mother Diane. Her family and friends will miss Ardythe’s zest for life and her genuine warmth and caring. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, August 8, 11:00 AM, at the Vashon Lutheran Church. ?Please visit our online guest book at www.islandfuneral.com
