Ardith Crawford
January 3, 1924 ~ March 17, 2012
Ardith Crawford, 88, died peacefully in her sleep March 17 following a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Granite City, Illinois, Ardith lived in Japan and throughout the U.S. during her marriage to Walter Coldiron, a career Air Force veteran. Among her many pursuits, she bred and raised national champion show dogs. A renowned cook who loved to give dinner parties, Ardith was also an avid reader who routinely completed the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle in ink. In the early 1980s, she came to Vashon to help her daughter, Linda, build a house and stayed on to make the island her home.
Ardith had a personality and spirit much larger than her 4’ 11” frame, and those who knew her will smile at the knowledge that she departed this earth on St. Patrick’s Day.
She leaves behind three children, eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter. Ardith will be laid to rest next to her mother and father in Choudrant, Louisiana. Home again.
