Aaron Markuson, 1910-2010, lived over 99 years, more than 21 of them on Vashon Island. He left behind his wife of almost 70 years, Margaret; his son, John; daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Carl Blomgren; his grandson, Anders; and grandson and granddaughter-in-law Per-Lars and Alison Blomgren.
Aaron “retired” to Vashon after having served the Covenant Church in many capacities from the 1930s to the 1990s, continuing his ministry here as he and Margaret visited local hospitals and nursing homes to bring God’s love and concern to the infirm and elderly. He and Margaret enjoyed rural living, raising chickens and pigs, establishing and tilling their gardens, and tending to their fruit trees. Their cider-making parties were a joy for many friends.
An avid sports fan, he followed the Mariners, Sonics, Seahawks, and all the Huskies teams, but he reserved a special place for Vashon’s wrestling teams—featuring those Blomgren relatives as contestants and coaches.
We miss him, his kindness, his wisdom, and his deep and abiding love, shared every day.
