Woman pulled from water off Manzanita Beach identified

The deceased woman pulled from the water off Manzanita Beach on Jan. 15 has been identified as a Puyallup woman. King County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Cindi West said the county Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the death as a possible suicide.

The body of an Asian woman pulled from the water off Manzanita Beach three weeks ago has been identified as a 58-year-old Puyallup woman, King County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cindi West said Monday.

West said that the county medical examiner determined Barbara Bolieu, 58, died from asphyxia due to drowning. Her death is being investigated as a possible suicide.

Bolieu’s body was found floating in the water roughly 200 yards from the shore around 1:30 p.m. Jan. 19. An island rower in the area spotted the body and alerted authorities.

The King County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement days after her body was found calling for the public’s help to identify the woman.
