The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the name of the Vashon woman killed in a car accident earlier this week on the north end of the island.
Molly Adams, 33, was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and she died from blunt force trauma, an official with the medical examiner’s office said on Thursday.
Vashon Island Fire & Rescue (VIFR) was called to the scene in the 14400 block of Vashon Highway SW at 11:30 p.m. Dec. 29; the initial report indicated there had been a car accident and that there were flames beneath the vehicle. VIFR’s Brodie Smith, the officer in charge that evening, said that on the way to the scene, they were informed that the situation had worsened and that the fire had spread to the nearby trees and other vegetation. The vehicle was fully engulfed by the time they arrived.
Fire department personnel were able to get the fire out quickly, Smith said, but were not able to save Adams, who died at the scene.
The King County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Response and Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate the incident, and the main highway was closed for several hours in the night and early morning.
The sheriff’s office report indicates Adams did not make a left curve in the highway and went off the road, hitting two large trees on the east side. Factors that may have contributed to the accident remain under investigation.
Further information will be provided in next week’s Beachcomber.
