The current forecast for Vashon-Maury islands this weekend includes a “winter storm warning” beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday and lasting through 4 p.m. Sunday.
Heavy snow is expected to fall along the Washington coast this afternoon and snowfall will likely spread into the interior of western Washington this evening. The heaviest snow will likely occur on the Kitsap peninsula, according to weather.gov.
Voice of Vashon Standing By, at 1650 AM, can be a valuable source of up-to-date information on weather conditions, road closures and community events on Vashon — especially in times of extreme weather.
VoV Standing By will post news bulletins as they become available, but needs the help of Island residents to keep its news current and relevant.
Call or e-mail Karen du Four des Champs to report newsworthy items to the radio station. Volunteers will make sure the news is posted on VoV Standing By, so those who tune in to 1650 AM will hear it.
This week, three volunteers have recorded more than 20 updated bulletins — some as early as 4 a.m. The volunteers at Voice of Vashon and VashonBePrepared seek reports on the following:
* cancellations of public events, performances or community activities;
* first-hand knowledge of roads that are blocked or closed;
* cancellations of religious services; and
* any “breaking news” that would be relevant for all Islanders to know
E-mail kdd@innercor.com or, if unable to access e-mail, call Karen du Four des Champs’ cell at (206) 679-1389 to report news for VoV Standing By.
