Vashon Island Fire & Rescue (VIFR) has now launched a new program, aimed at making sure that smoke detectors are installed and working properly in island homes.
Islanders can call VIFR, at 206-463-2405, or email staff, at administration@vifr.org, to schedule a free appointment for a VIFR crew member to come to their homes to install smoke detectors or install fresh smoke-detector batteries.
VIFR personnel will arrive fully equipped to do the necessary work, complete with ladders, screwdrivers, smoke detectors, and batteries.
It’s a new program launched earlier this month, in honor of National Fire Prevention Week, which took place from Oct. 9 to 15.
And while Vashon Fire Chief Matt Vinci noted that fire prevention week has now concluded, VIFR’s new smoke-detector/battery replacement program will take place year-round.
“The safety of our community is a priority every day on Vashon,” said Vinci.
