A single-vehicle crash occurred in the 19200 block of Beall Road SW late in the afternoon Monday, resulting in a ticket for the teenage driver and minor injuries for his six passengers, all teens.
Information from the King County Sheriff’s Office indicates that a white GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck left a driveway in the 19400 block of Beall Road and turned northbound. The driver “peeled out” of the driveway, was going too fast and lost control of the rear end of the vehicle. The incident occurred while it was hailing.
The driver swerved and counter-steered several times between the 19400 and 19200 block of Beall Road, finally sliding on the slush on the west side of the road and rolling in to the ditch, where the truck landed on its top.
Vashon Island Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Bob Larsen said when members of the fire department arrived, the sheriff’s department was already on the scene and all the passengers had self-extricated. All passengers were evaluated and released to their parents or guardians.
“It’s important to be aware of road conditions, especially ice on the roads,” Larsen said after the incident.
The driver had an intermediate license, which restricts the number and age of passenger the license holder can tranport. In this case, the driver was ticketed for violations related to having an intermediate license, seatbelt access and/or use, and driving too fast for conditions.
