The state Liquor Control Board is still processing more than 7,000 applications it received from around the state for marijuana business licenses.

A final list of applicants has not yet been released to the public, but preliminary information shows that at least 18 companies or individuals have applied for licenses to grow and process marijuana on Vashon. The LCB is releasing updated information weekly.

“There are only so many staff to sift through thousands of applications,” said Brian Smith, a spokesman for the LCB.

Information released so far shows that 16 applications have been submitted for marijuana growing operations on Vashon. Four applications are for Tier 1 pot production licenses, meaning the proposed growing operation would be 2,000 square feet or smaller. Seven are for Tier 2 licenses, which would be 2,000 to 10,000 square feet, and five are for Tier 3 licenses, which would be 10,000 to 30,000 square feet. Three of the five Tier 3 production applications are for the K2 building.

Ten of the companies that submitted applications to grow pot on Vashon also put in for licenses to process — or dry, possibly cook and package — marijuana as well. Just one business put in an application to process marijuana only, listing a Gold Beach address.

So far just one business has applied to open a retail marijuana shop on Vashon. Allyn Dock Enterprises applied for a retail license at the address of the Vashon Athletic Club.

However, Kevin Allman, who owns the club, said he was unaware of any plans to open a marijuana shop at the property or nearby and said there could be an error in the application.

“We’re not doing anything like that. We’re just a health club, and that’s what we plan to continue to be,” he said.
