The King County Sheriff’s Office hopes to reunite stolen jewelry with its owners through two jewelry viewing events next week on Vashon.
Anyone who had jewelry stolen in the last two years and reported it to the sheriff’s office is invited to the events, where they will be able to view stolen jewelry recovered in King County that may match their items.
King County Detective Debby Schmitz said about 50 items will be available to view, and she believes some of the jewelry likely belongs to Vashon residents. The items may have been stolen in the rash of jewelry thefts the island experienced last year, she said, or could have been taken in other burglaries. She noted that it’s possible the owners of some items may not realize they are missing and said she encourages people to take inventory of any jewelry collections.
Jewelry can be viewed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, and 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the King County Sheriff’s Office substation on Bank Road. Attendees should bring picture ID and the case numbers associated with their reports.
