Part of Dockton Road will be closed weeknights beginning Nov. 30, as crews attach steel anchors to rotting portions of the seawall in an effort to prevent the road from failing.

An inspection last month of the Dockton Road seawall showed that some of the wall’s timber sections along Tramp Harbor are rotting and need immediate reinforcement. The county will begin the repair project Nov. 30.

Crews will attach steel anchors to the seaward side of the rotting wall sections, in a temporary fix that will prevent the seawall from failing during a major storm, according to King County.

The county is currently weighing options for replacing the nearly century-old stretch of Dockton Road along Tramp Harbor, but the seawall anchor repairs need to be made immediately, according to a King County press release.

“Given the magnitude of deterioration, short-term steps must be taken to prevent failure of the seawall and damage to Dockton Road,” according to the county.

Dockton Road will be closed between Portage Way S.W. and Chautauqua Beach Road while crews are repairing the seawall from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, Nov. 30, and ending when the repairs are complete, likely by Dec. 10.
