School board to meet tomorrow
The Vashon Island School District board of directors will meet at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, June 26, at Courthouse Square.
At tomorrow’s meeting, the school board will decide whether to close the high school campus, which has been open for seniors for the last several years. The board will also consider a proposal on how to collect community feedback to proposed renovations to the high school campus.
Buy tickets for festival carnival
Presale tickets for the 2008 Strawberry Festival carnival are available now. Buy them at Vashon Auto Parts/NAPA on 100th Avenue S.W. Make checks payable to Vashon Chamber of Commerce. The cost is $17 per session.
Sessions are Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m., Friday from 3 to 9 p.m., Saturday noon to 5 p.m. or 5 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Exchange your ticket for a wristband at the carnival ticket booth at the beginning of the session of your choice.
Help plan future council elections
A group is forming to talk about how our local election for Vashon-Maury Island Community Council board members should be run. Do we continue to vote at the ballot box? Do we do an Island-wide mail-in ballot? Do we do some sort of combination of both? Help formulate the options at a meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Café Luna.

ACOA support group forms
A new Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOA) group has formed on the Island. Adults who suffer from parental alcoholism or other family dysfunction due to alcohol can benefit from this support group, where participants share their experiences, strengths and hopes for recovery from the lingering effects of this disease.
The group meets from 7 to 8 p.m. Mondays in Classroom B at the Vashon Presbyterian Church. For more information, call 567-4834.
Editor’s red bike stolen
Late Monday night, while Leslie Brown, The Beachcomber’s editor, was finishing this week’s paper, her red, multi-speed bicycle was stolen from in front of the office. (Yes, she forgot to bring it into the office, as she usually did.)
