Scene & Heard: Vashon Schools Foundation delivers donation to school board

The Vashon Schools Foundation presented a check for $102,000 to the VISD school board during their meeting on Thursday, Jan. 13.

On Jan. 13, Vashon Schools Foundation (VSF) board members Rheagan Sparks, Anne Guerry and Halbe Dougherty-Wood delivered $102,000 to the district, all raised from the community, to fulfill VISD’s 2021 funding requests.

VSF raises money on a grassroots basis to bridge the gap between programs and services needed for Vashon students and what the Washington state legislature’s prototype model for “basic” education doles out of the state tax pot. Through donations to the foundation, Vashon dollars go directly to serve education needs for Vashon kids. VSF hopes to continue to sustain these programs and services in 2022 with islanders’ donations at vashonschoolsfoundation.org.
