Mitchell Grossman, 15, started the Seattle to Portland ride in Seattle at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 15, and, after riding 206 miles, through temperatures in the 90s and a flat tire in Oregon, crossed the finish line in Portland at 10:20 p.m. — one of a minority of riders to complete the ride in a single day.
The ride, organized by the Cascade Bicycle Club in Seattle, is the largest multi-day bicycle event in the Northwest, with up to 8,000 participants riding from Seattle to Portland in one or two days.
Grossman, who will be a sophomore at Vashon High School this fall, is on the Vashon Rowing team.
His next planned ride is Vashon’s own Passport2Pain, in September, where he will bike the 83-mile ride known as “The Idiot.”
