Vashon open water swimmer Mary Singer successfully swam the 21-mile Catalina Channel, beginning on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 10:30 p.m. and finishing at Rancho Palo Verdes 13 hours, 11 minutes and 23 seconds later.

Singer was supported in her swim by Heidi Skrzypek, Stephanie Zimmerman, Katsumi Pureck, Carri Singer, and Mary Robinson. Dan Simonelli and Barb Schumacher provided kayak support. Joel Virgel and Guy Morgan were on board the Pacific Star as official observers for the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation.
