Vashon’s Friends of Mukai organization finally gained ownership of the historic Mukai House and Garden in April after years of court battles and will open it up to the public for a first look on June 18 and 19.
“We just want to welcome the public to come in and see the property on those days, to find out more about the Mukai family and what we will be working to accomplish there,” Friends of Mukai board member Helen Meeker said.
For the last two months, in preparation of the soft opening, the Friends board has begun cleaning the house, taking inventory of its contents and developing ways to tell the story of the home and the history of the Mukai family.
The Mukai home is located at 18017 107th Ave. SW. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
