In Washington, Republican precinct caucuses are slated for Saturday, Feb. 20, though Vashon residents wishing to take part will need to go to West Seattle to participate. The caucus will be at West Seattle High School at 3000 California Ave. SW. Doors will open at 9 a.m., and the caucus will begin at 10 a.m.
In previous elections, the Republican party awarded some or all of its delegates based on caucus results, but this year, the state’s 41 Republican National Convention delegates will be awarded based on primary results in May. Saturday’s caucus will be used to elect precinct-level delegates, who will go on to county and state conventions.
It is a different picture for island Democrats, who will caucus at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at the Open Space for Arts & Community.
Voters will support the candidate of their choice, and each candidate will be awarded delegates proportionally, based on their percentage of support. As in the past, Democrats will ignore primary results and award delegates solely from the caucus.
