Starting this week, gallery cruisers will have a new dining option as Patty Freebourn of Patty’s Tamales will serve dinner at The Kitchen Larder every First Friday until the space is sold.
“The end of the market season is coming up, and people always ask where they can get fresh tamales after that,” Freebourn said. “Now they will have this opportunity.”
Freebourn will rent the kitchen and dining space at the former Express Cuisine restaurant — which is now set up as a community kitchen — from 5 to 10 p.m. every First Friday. She plans to serve her tamales as well as a different, non-Mexican special each time. Diners can expect options for tamale flavors, toppings and sides, as well as dessert for under $10 per plate. Soda, beer and wine will be available for purchase, and the price of each evening’s special will vary.
Freebourn says that she plans to give a portion of the proceeds from the dinners to her assistant cook, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
“She will no longer be able to work as she has been, so I want to help her and her family,” Freebourn said. Donations will also be accepted at the dinners.
The dining area will still be available to rent as gallery space.
