Park board member Michael DeBlasi, who has been absent from the last few meetings, resigned from the board this week.
Susan McCabe, interim park district director, said she believed DeBlasi resigned for personal reasons, though she hadn’t seen his resignation letter yet.
The board will officially accept DeBlasi’s resignation at its Nov. 27 meeting, McCabe said. They will accept names of those interested in filling the rest of his term, which will end in 2015.
DeBlasi was appointed by the board in 2010 to complete the term of former board member Mike Collins, who resigned when he moved off the Island. He was elected to the position the following year and became the board treasurer.
On Tuesday a group of Islanders who have said they are upset with the financial state of the park district put out an email telling the news of DeBlasi’s resignation and encouraging Islanders to consider serving on the board or to think of “smart, thoughtful” people who may be willing to serve.
