Prepare for road work on Cemetery Road

Cemetery Road closure during November

Heads up, motorists travelling between Maury Island and Vashon Town: The easternmost section of SW Cemetery Road will be closed for much of November.

Traffic crews will reduce traffic to a single lane on SW Cemetery Road between Beall Rd SW and 87th Ave SW from Monday, Nov. 4 to Friday, Nov. 22 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day for drainage improvement work, according to King County.

No weekend work is scheduled; the closure will only apply to weekdays. Flaggers will be on site to direct alternating two-way traffic. All vehicles will have access through the work zone.

The goal of the work is to fix this section of road’s tendency to flood during heavy rain. It will involve replacing old driveway culverts, moving a ditch further from the road and removing some trees that have grown in the ditch. The project will also add a five-foot-wide gravel shoulder to make it safer for people walking along the road, according to the county.
