Island budget meetings, comprehensive plan and more.

Island agency budget meetings

Island agencies are beginning the process of setting their 2025 budgets.

The Vashon Park District will hold two board meetings in person at the Ober Park Administration building and via Zoom at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12 and 26 to discuss the district’s 2025 budget. Learn more about those meetings by visiting vashonparks.org/board-and-board-meetings.

The Vashon Health Care District will hold a special budget meeting on Nov. 13 to conduct a public hearing on its proposed 2025 budget, and a hearing on its proposed regular tax levy for 2025. Final action may be taken.

The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. at the Vashon Presbyterian Church, at 17708 Vashon Hwy SW, and on Zoom. A link to the proposed budget, and information to join the meeting online via Zoom, can be found at vashonhealthcare.org under “News & Notices.”

Comprehensive Plan

Two more chances to weigh in on the proposed King County Comprehensive Plan are coming up, before the King County Council’s final vote on the plan in December.

Vashon’s Councilmember, Teresa Mosqueda, has announced that she will hold an online community discussion for islanders from 12-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, about the county’s inclusionary housing policies, incentives and requirements to enable more affordable housing in new housing development across the county. Sign up for the discussion at bit.ly/vashon-housing.

A full council public hearing on the plan will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at King County Courthouse, at 516 3rd Avenue, Room 1001, in Seattle.

Written public testimony will be accepted through 9 a.m. on Nov. 19, by sending such public testimony to CouncilCompPlan@kingcounty.gov. Please include the legislation number and related agenda item in the subject line.

In-person and remote testimony will also be accepted at the Nov. 19 hearing. Information on the public hearing and how to submit public testimony can be found on the County Council Meetings web page, at tinyurl.com/mwax4ke5.

Water District 19 meeting

Vashon’s Water District 19 is considering policy changes around water allocation, and its board of commissioners will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Land Trust building for public comment. The potential changes include revisions to the water sale process, expanding the kinds of applicants who qualify for priority access to water and changing how existing shares can be sold back to the district.

For questions, call Water District 19 at 206-463-9007.

Register for Winterfest parade

Vashon’s Winterfest parade starts at 5 p.m. and ends around 5:30 p.m. this year on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Anyone who wants to have their tractor, car/truck, organization or music as a part of the parade should reach out to the Chamber of Commerce by visiting tinyurl.com/Vashon2024Winterfest.

Election coverage in next week’s paper

As a reminder, The Beachcomber’s weekly print edition is put together on Tuesday morning. That means we won’t have results from the Nov. 5 election in this week’s edition, but you will see them online this week and in print next week.
