With over 200 items now available to borrow, the Vashon Tool Library is set to hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Open Space for Arts & Community.
“We’ve made a lot of progress,” said Steve Graham, one of the driving forces behind the tool library’s creation. “Hopefully opening day will help get the word out and more people will donate.”
The tool library, where members can borrow tools and miscellaneous items for projects or repairs, currently occupies a small area in the O2 building next to the Open Space and is an idea that Graham and other island volunteers have been working to bring to fruition for more than two years.
During Saturday’s open house, attendees will be able to tour the tool library and learn how it works, donate tools, sign up to become a member and see a presentation about other tool libraries in the area. Standard membership is by a suggested donation of $40 and sign-up is available now.
“The biggest thing right now is to build the inventory,” Graham said. “If we can build that up between now and the spring when demand goes up, we should be in a good position to keep this going.”
