A 56-year-old man was arrested and booked into King County jail for an alleged rape on Saturday, according to DB Gates, a spokeswoman for the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The alleged assailant is listed as a transient. The victim is an adult female resident of Vashon.

The rape is reported to have occurred in the victim’s vehicle in the 11100 block of SW Cemetery Road on Saturday afternoon. It was not a stranger rape, Gates said, as the victim knew the suspect through mutual acquaintances.

The man appeared in court Monday afternoon, when bail was set at $25,000. As of press time Tuesday morning, he was still in jail and had not yet been charged.His next court date is set for July 16.
