Local clothing consignment business up for sale

The owner hopes her concept for the store, as an LGBTQ-welcoming, all-gender-inclusive place to shop for apparel for all ages and all occasions, will live on under new ownership.

The owner and operator of Rock It Consignment, a well-appointed clothing store located in the center of town, is offering her business for sale — and hoping a new owner will step up before her shop closes at the end of December.

Alena Sinacola, who has owned the shop for the past two years, said she is eager to find a new line of work that suits her lifestyle more, as the involved mother of a nine-year-old daughter.

But she hopes her concept for the store, as an LGBTQ-welcoming, all-gender-inclusive place to shop for apparel for all ages and all occasions, will live on under new ownership.

On a tour of the store, Sinacola said her spacious retail space particularly fills a niche for its range of children’s clothes.

One room of Rock It — which includes a cozy nook for reading and playing games — is devoted to children’s apparel.

“We don’t have a lot of options for kids’ [clothing] on Vashon,” said Sinacola.

The shop’s inventory for adults ranges from island-casual to dress-up clothes, shoes, boots and accessories.

Located across from the Village Green and steps from Lost & Found, Vashon Island Baking Company, Luna Bella’s, and Raven’s Nest, Rock It has an established local client base, Sinacola said. The summer months, she added, bring increased tourist traffic into the shop.

The sale includes several industrial sewing machines, perfect for jumpstarting a side gig tailoring and doing alterations.

Bringing this much-needed service back to the island would attract new customers and generate a second, steady source of income for the business, said Sinacola.

The sewing machines are now set up in a spacious workroom in the back of the store.
