A Vashon bookkeeper was sentenced to 12 months of home detention last week after pleading guilty to stealing from The Country Store and an elderly couple.
Donna Marie Knowles was originally charged in King County Superior Court with 35 counts of second-degree theft for allegedly stealing more than $33,000 from The Country Store and its owner while employed there in 2011 and 2012 and nearly $19,000 from a Vashon couple she did bookkeeping for in 2014.
According to court documents, Knowles pled guilty in April to six of the counts. Last Friday, she was sentenced to 12 months of electronic home detention. She will also be required to pay restitution, which is estimated to be between $40,000 and $50,000.
According to a King County website, those on electronic home detention are monitored electronically and confined to their homes, except when following a set schedule that may include attendance at work, school or treatment.
