Vashon landowners with five acres or more of forest can sign up to get their woodlots certified by the Forest Stewardship Council for $50 between now and the end of the year — a discount from the usual cost of close to $300, said forest ecologist David Warren.
The FSC certification refers to an environmentally healthy standard for managing forests, and products made from such forests carry a label indicating that they were made from trees harvested sustainably.
Warren, who runs Vashon Forest Stewards, said forest owners need to do only a little more work to be FSC-certified. For more information, call him at 463-9405.
