James and Stephanie Cook were married June 21, 2008, at Assumption Catholic Church in Bellingham.
James is a former Vashon resident and a 1999 Vashon High School graduate. The couple makes their home in Bellingham.

Ed & Charlotte Williams
Ed and Charlotte Williams celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at sea on Star Princess, with 14 cabins full of friends and relatives from five states.
The Williams have been Vashon residents for 31 years.
They met in Denver when Charlotte moved in next door to Ed, who was a pilot for United Airlines for more than 34 years.
They got married in Las Vegas on Aug. 11, 1958.
The couple’s daughter is Shannon Flora (Jon) of Vashon and their granddaughter is Brette Flora.
“A great time in Alaska was had by all,” Charlotte said. She added that she and Ed wanted to thank their well-wishers, friends and family.

Colin Loveness of Vashon received a bachelor of arts degree in economics magna cum laude in June 2008 from Carleton College in Minnesota. He is the son of Elizabeth Loveness.
Madelaine Ripley
Madelaine Ripley, a freshman at Berklee College of Music studying jazz composition and violin performance, made the fall 2007 and spring 2008 dean’s lists with a GPA of 3.6.
Joshua Thorn
Joshua Thorn of Vashon received a bachelor of arts degree in physics in June 2008 from Carleton College in Minnesota. Thorn is the son of Mark and Ann Thorn.

Captain Clay Snaza
Captain Clay Snaza of the United States Navy stepped down as the head of the Defense Contract Management Agency in Palmdale, Calif., retiring after 35 years in the military.
Snaza is a 1979 graduate of Vashon High School and the son of Islanders Bud and Bonnie Snaza. Bud was the football coach and vice principal of the high school for many years.
Snaza, a Central Washington University graduate, retired with 2,000 flight hours and 327 carrier landings. His decorations include the Navy Meritorious Service Medal (three awards) and the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards).
sheriff’s report
July 20
11:55 a.m.: A King County Sheriff’s deputy spoke to a reporting party at the intersection of S.W. Ellisport and Chautauqua Beach Road. The individual told the deputy that he had been parked along the waterfront there with some friends, and just prior to leaving a friend of his was having an argument with another individual.
In the course of the argument, someone threw a rock at the reporting party’s car window. The report does not state if the rock hit the window or broke it.
5:10 p.m.: Kronos was the victim of larceny, when a white female in her 20s with a heavy build stole clothes from the store. The suspect was wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans when she entered the store, which was open for business, and absconded with the clothing items.
8:22 p.m. In the 20300 block of 87th Avenue S.W., King County Sheriff’s deputies pursued an individual in a vehicle. The individual had shoplifted and was attempting to elude the police, a felony offense.
July 23
8:20 a.m.: A King County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a call of a suspicious package that had been left in the Vashon Theatre parking lot. Upon arrival, he observed a medium-sized light gray lockbox lying in the parking lot on the north side of the theater.
The box, which was still locked, had scuff marks and dust on it and looked like it had been carelessly tossed aside.
The deputy determined that there was nothing in the lockbox, but reported that he was unsure if the lockbox was something of value or something that had been discarded as trash.
July 25
4:22 a.m.: In the 20300 block of 87th Avenue S.W., an incident of fourth-degree assault was reported.
July 26
1:45 a.m.: At the north-end ferry parking lot, an indiviual gained entry to a parked vehicle by breaking out the driver’s side window and stole items valued at more than $250 from inside.
12:30 p.m.: In the 4700 block of S.W. Luana Beach Road, a vacant house that is for sale was the victim of burglary.

The Vashon Park District board meeting for Aug. 12 has been cancelled. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, in Ober Park.

VMICC seeking volunteer
The Vashon-Maury Island Community Council Transportation Committee is seeking a volunteer to examine the Metro bus situation on Vashon.
Interested in researching potential grants or exploring greener energy options? Want a smaller carbon footprint on Vashon?
