Vashon Market Fresh IGA began selling liquor at its store at Vashon Plaza last Friday, making it the first grocery store on the island to do so, said owner Shawn Hoffman Monday.
The store, which he purchased from an off-island owner last October, already had a liquor license in hand, Hoffman said. He decided to begin offering spirits after he learned that Island Home Center & Lumber is also applying for a liquor license.
But Hoffman said he intends to sell “just the basics,” hoping that will leave room for the Vashon Liquor Store to ply its trade. He also called the liquor store’s owners to let them know of his intentions, he said.
“Hopefully, it will all work out,” he said.
