Vashon Island Fire & Rescue firefighters work to clean up after a deck caught fire at a home in the 19000 block of Ridge Road Thursday afternoon.

Fire Chief Hank Lipe said that chicks were being kept in an enclosure with a heat lamp on the deck when the homeowner reportedly heard a loud boom and went out to see the deck in flames. VIFR received a call reporting the blaze around 3:32 p.m. and firefighters arrived at the scene seven minutes later.

A total of 14 personnel responded and extinguished the flames before they spread to the rest of the house. Personnel remained on the scene until after 6:30 p.m.
