The Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Museum has opened a new consignment store, located just inside the front door of the museum on Bank Road. The small space in the lobby area will now serve as a display of historical artifacts and collectibles that are offered for sale to visitors to the museum.

Museum officials hope that area residents will bring small antique items that can be put on display for sale on a consignment basis. Thirty percent of the sale will go to help the museum continue to offer new exhibits, and 70 percent will go to the seller.

“It’s a great way to help support the museum, and make some money, too,” said museum trustee Yvonne Kuperberg.

Kuperberg added that she expects the store to be like an ever-changing exhibit curated by Islanders themselves.

“To us, it all ties into the Island’s enduring culture and collective memories. … We hope many people will want to buy these treasures and take them home to enjoy for more generations,” she said.
