Water District Meeting
Water District 19’s next board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 in the district’s board room. This meeting has been changed from the district’s regular second Tuesday time, due to a scheduling conflict. The May board meeting will be held on the normal second Tuesday of the month, on May 10.
Celebrate borrowing on Vashon
Local lending institutions (see page 6) will participate in National Library Week, from April 3 to 10. Special events will include an open house at the Care Closet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, at 18623 Vashon Hwy. SW. A sale at the Tool Library will happen from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, and a series of home visits by the mobile library, Vashon Reads, starting April 16. Patrisse Cullors to speak
Artist, activist and author Patrisse Cullors will speak about her new book, “An Abolitionist’s Handbook: 12 Steps to Changing Yourself and the World,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA). Cullors is nationally known for her work for criminal justice and prison reform, and calls for an economy of care that ensures “every human and living being has the care they need.”

VIPP Bake Sale
The Vashon Island Pet Protectors (VIPP) spring bake sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, in front of Thriftway.
Climate Change Talk
The Vashon Island Unitarian Fellowship (VIUF) will welcome Rita Schenck for a talk on “Climate Change and Our Chance to Right It.” Dr. Schenck is known internationally for her research on energy independence. Login to the talk at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 10, VIUF.org/Sunday.
Scholarship opportunity
Vashon Presbyterian Church is accepting applications for the 2022 Heindsmann Family Endowment Scholarship award. Granted to a student based on financial need, academic promise, and dependability, the award is not intended for high school seniors. Rather, it is given to students who have completed two or more years of higher education or who are seeking special training or retraining.
