Senior Center fun, a comedy show and a grief ritual.

Senior Center

The Vashon Senior Center, at 10004 Bank Rd., serves a hot lunch at 12 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and offers multiple activities throughout each week.

The Center will be closed on Dec. 25-27 and Dec. 31-Jan 2, reopening on Jan. 3. On Monday, Dec. 30, the Center will be open, with lunch served and limited programs.

Aaron Henderson will lead a discussion and 15-minute guided “mindfulness meditation” at the Center at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3. See a full calendar of events at vashoncenter.org.

Voice of Vashon

Tune into Voice of Vashon’s Brown Briefly Show at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, when the show’s guest will be Alex Bruell, editor of The Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber. The show’s hosts, Craig Beles, Amy Drayer, Truman O’Brien, Kevin Jones and Bruce Haulman will close out 2024 with an informative wrap-up of Bruell’s favorite and most significant stories of the past year. New Year’s Eve

Open Space for Arts & Community will host a New Year’s Eve bash and dance party, with hourly confetti drops celebrating midnight all over the world, starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31. Bowie/Rex & His Boogie Army will headline the evening, with Cheap Scenery as the opening band. Hanukkah Party

Vashon Havurah’s annual Hanukkah party will take place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Vashon Cohousing’s Common House. Latkes and fixings will be provided; bring a menorah and candles. This year, Hanukkah is celebrated from Dec. 25 to Jan. 2.

Comedy show

Three comedians will perform stand-up in a post-Christmas show, representing the Best of Seattle International Comedy Competition, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Vashon Theatre. Get tickets at vashontheatre.com.

Grief Ritual

A monthly community grief ritual is held on the first Sunday of every month, from 1-2 p.m. at the Tree of Life Wellness Center at 17331 Vashon Highway, with donations accepted. Business of Caregiving

The Vashon Care Network will present a free session at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, on the business aspects of hiring a caregiver. Deborah Diamond, an IRS expert and business consultant, will provide practical information for both care seekers and caregivers; employers and employees. This is a hybrid session — islanders can attend in person at the Vashon Senior Center or participate via Zoom. The Zoom meeting ID is 8980515 9633, and the passcode is 906455.
