Funds are raised for James’ dog

The McCrackyn family, which was seeking $13,500 for a service dog for their autistic son James, has raised more than $16,000 thanks to a remarkable showing of Island support, the family reports.

The story also garnered local television attention, which in turn has led to national attention: “Good Morning, America” plans to visit James’ home once his dog arrives in February.

The additional money the family has raised will go towards a scholarship to help other families seeking funds for a service dog. Those interested in following the family’s progress can visit their Web site, www.dogforjames.com, which will be updated periodically.
