Draw Oz for Drama Dock

Drama Dock is seeking a designer for the official poster for its April production of “The Wizard of Oz.”

The best poster — as chosen by a committee of Island artists and thespians — will be featured all over Vashon and beyond. Drama Dock will also use the image for the play program, tickets and T-shirts, and the artist will receive two free tickets to the play and a framed copy of the poster.

Deliver an 8.5 by 11 inch print of the original artwork with name, telephone number and e-mail address on the back (so as to hide artists’ names from the judges) to Vashon Bookshop by Feb. 22. And as a note of caution: No flying monkeys, ruby red slippers or Totos, since they aren’t in this production! Entries from artists of all ages are welcome.

Call Anne Atwell at 463-7529 or e-mail her at anneatwell@comcast.net for more information.

VMICC seeks board member

Marilyn Omey, longtime member of the Vashon-Maury Island Community Council (VMICC) board of directors, has resigned from the board effective Dec. 31.

Any community member interested in being considered to replace Omey should contact Jim English, VMICC Board chair, at jimenglish@amerifresh.com, or phone him at 571-7792.

The board will recommend a candidate to replace Omey, and the choice will be voted upon at the subsequent general meeting of the community council. The selected candidate will serve until November’s general election.

Board members meet on the first Monday evening of each month to set the agenda for community council meetings.

Two Islanders have already stated their interest in the position: Kyle Cruver, a former VMICC president, and Hilary Emmer, a community activist.
