Community council meeting

After an observance for Martin Luther King Jr., the Jan. 21 Vashon-Maury Island Community Council meeting will focus on land use issues. The council will meet at 7:30 p.m. in Courthouse Square.

Paul Reitenbach of the King County Department of Development and Environmental Services will present information on the 2008 comprehensive plan update process, and Emma Amiad will provide an in-depth report from the Land Use and Natural Resources Committee on its efforts concerning the rezone of the K2 property. 

The committee will have one more public meeting, on Jan. 30, to work on the final language for a motion to have the site rezoned.

Parks meeting

The Vashon Park District board of commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Ober Park. The board will see a presentation of the Burton Acres Recreational Center master plan, the results of a demographic survey and a program funding request for the kayak rental program out of the Jensen Point boathouse.

Give input on new fire chief

On Thursday, Jan. 24, and Tuesday, Feb. 5, Island residents have an opportunity to meet with Greg Prothman, whose company is organizing the search for Vashon Island Fire & Rescue’s next fire chief.

Prothman will be on the Island from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, and will attend the 7:30 p.m. fire commissioners’ meeting on Feb. 5. Islanders may call the district at 463-2405 if they wish to be contacted about offering their ideas for the qualifications of the next fire chief.

Chamber annual meeting

The Vashon-Maury Island Chamber of Commerce annual meeting will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 24. The meeting will take place at Courthouse Square.

Light refreshments will be provided. Voting members must have their board election ballots submitted by the close of this meeting at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

HouseHold annual meeting

Vashon HouseHold will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17. Members of the public are welcome to attend. The meeting will occur at the J.G. Commons Building at 17300 96th Place S.W.
