Vashon Community Scholarship Foundation’s annual spelling bee is set for Saturday, Feb. 7, and registration is under way.

The bee, which raises funds for the foundation, has become a popular island event, both to participate in and watch.

Last year 15 teams signed on for the fierce but friendly competition, according to organizer Barbara Gustafson, and this year they would like to see even more. Teams can be from one to three people.

“We encourage friendly rivalry,” she added.

This year Dean and Mary Andrews have offered a door prize of a two-night stay at their bed and breakfast, Andrio’s Guest House (see www. vacationrentals.com #31704). To be eligible for the drawing,  pick up an entry form at Vashon Bookshop and bring the form plus a canned food donation for the Vashon food bank to the event.
