The monthly meeting of the Vashon-Maury Island Community Council will include an opportunity for Islanders to vet four wide-ranging motions, one of which calls for an end to the council’s current structure.

Before the council is a motion sponsored by board member Hilary Emmer to end the council’s current status as an Unincorporated Area Council, the county’s formal designation for its six regional councils.

Those who attend the meeting will also discuss a motion being put forward by former board member Joe Ulatoski calling for the formation of an ad-hoc committee to study governance issues on Vashon; another by John Runyan that would allow the council to occasionally constitute itself as a Special Committee of the Whole and suspend Roberts’ Rules of Order so as to more freely discuss issues; and a final motion by Rayna Holtz urging the council to work with King County to establish an electronic means of capturing VMICC’s correspondence and setting up the equivalent of Google groups for each VMICC committee.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at McMurray Middle School.
