Fire department to remove cedars

Two large red cedar trees in front of Vashon Island Fire & Rescue’s headquarters on Bank Road are “showing signs of major deterioration and poor health” according to a report received by the department from Michelle Ramsden, a locally based certified arborist.

Two large red cedar trees in front of Vashon Island Fire & Rescue’s headquarters on Bank Road are “showing signs of major deterioration and poor health” according to a report received by the department from Michelle Ramsden, a locally based certified arborist.

As a result of the tree assessment, the board of fire commissioners voted unanimously last Tuesday to follow Ramsden’s recommendation to remove the trees.

Fire chief Hank Lipe said  the department regretted having to take them down.

“But since they are located next to Bank Road, where there is constant car and foot traffic, it is necessary in the best interests of public safety,” he said.
