Ferry rates changing starting Oct. 1

A rate hike approved by the legislature is going into effect at the same time the peak season surcharge ends.

Ferry rates for those boarding for Vashon have changed, starting this month.

It’s a bit complicated, because a rate hike approved by the legislature is going into effect at the same time that the peak season surcharge ends.

Starting Oct. 1, the general fare for passengers and vehicles increased by 4.25%. (It’ll increase by the same percentage on Oct. 1, 2024, and for the next two years, the multiride discount will increase by 1%.)

Meanwhile, a 25% surcharge for single-ticket vehicle fares is ending, because it only applies May 1 through Sept. 30. That surcharge doesn’t apply to those using multiride cards or passes.

The net result is that drivers making single visits will pay slightly less, and walk-ons and multi-ride commuters will pay a bit more. For example:

  • The standard vehicle cost of $27.25 will fall to $22.75. Vehicles under 14 feet will fall from $21.40 to $17.90.
  • The standard vehicle multi-ride pass will rise from $176.20 to $180.80. For small vehicles, it’ll increase from $138.60 to $142.45.
  • The standard motorcyclist cost will drop from $11.65 to $9.75.
  • Adult passengers will rise from $6.25 to $6.50. Seniors and those with disabilities will see their fare increase from $3.10 to $3.25.

Youth passengers continue to ride for free, and it’s always free to leave the island on the ferry. The prices are the same whether you’re travelling to Vashon from the Pt. Defiance, Fauntleroy or Southworth terminals.
