Starting Wednesday, the Vashon Farmers Market will begin a trial run of a weekly farm stand at the Village Green.
The farm stand, which will be open Wednesdays, will be set up at the front of the Village Green and will feature produce and other food items from nine different Farmers Market vendors, according to Farmers Market Manager Caleb Johns.
Johns said there has been community interest for some time in a mid-week farmers market on Vashon. The idea has been tried before, but in a different form. This time, Johns and the Vashon Island Growers Association (VIGA) decided that the single stand would be a good way to test the waters without the logistics required to put on a full market.
The new farm stand will offer produce, as well as meats, cheese, cider, bread and baked goods.
“People can get whatever they need for breakfast or for dinner in one spot,” Johns said.
The farm stand will be staffed and is scheduled to be open weekly through August and September. After that, Johns said he and VIGA will make decisions about its future viability.
The farm stand will be open 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Village Green for the next eight weeks.
