Fairies to run for honorary mayor

When the Washington State Fairies heard that the Vashon public schools were in trouble, they couldn’t flit idly by.

Kalakala and Klahowya-Tahlequah knew that their community was counting on them. The fairies announced on Saturday they will run for honorary mayorettes in support of the Vashon Schools Foundation. The foundation’s purpose is to help bridge the gap between reduced public funding and the budget required to maintain current programs and excellence in the Vashon public schools. If elected, the fairies said they intend to “sprinkle a little extra fairy dust on our beloved schools.”

“We believe every child deserves an education that will enable them to succeed. We are running on a platform of education and also of love and magic and sparkliness,” said Kalakala after declaring their campaign. “We believe the children are our future,” added Klahowya-Tahlequah in a press release.

The fairies have received endorsements from such notables as The Tooth Fairy, Tinkerbell and the queen mum herself, Titania, queen of the fairies.

The fairies will campaign at the Saturday market and all around town and will accept donations at various Island businesses. Checks made out to “The Washington State Fairies for Mayor” may be sent to The Vashon Chamber of Commerce at P.O. Box 1035, Vashon, WA 98070. You can contact the fairies directly at fairies@washingtonstatefairies.com or see them on Facebook as the Washington State Fairies.
