Expected snowstorm prompts several cancellations, closures

The Vashon Maury Island Community Council general meeting scheduled for Tuesday night has been cancelled due to the severe weather expected Tuesday.

Expected snowfall and icy road conditions on Vashon Tuesday night and Wednesday have prompted cancellations of meetings and activities planned on those days.

The Vashon Maury Island Community Council general meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening has been cancelled. VMICC president Tim Johnson said the board would decide at a later date whether the meeting will be rescheduled.

Wednesday morning’s Vashon Chamber of Commerce annual membership meeting has also been cancelled due to weather. The chamber is currently working to reschedule the meeting.

All Park District programs scheduled for Tuesday evening, including those at school gyms and fields, the Ober Park performance space and the Vashon Senior Center, have been cancelled. Should the Vashon School District cancel school on Wednesday, park district programs will be cancelled Wednesday as well.

The Vashon Maury Community Food Bank will be open for Wednesday morning distribution, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday evening distribution may be cancelled, depending on the weather.

Granny’s Attic is open Tuesday, but will not be open for donations Wednesday.

The Tuesday evening Audubon program, a talk by Christi Norman, has been cancelled. The Vashon-Maury Island Audubon Society plans to reschedule the event.
