The Vashon Rural Services Center, which offers county services on the island, will move into town this week.

The last day of operations at Courthouse Square will be Wednesday, and the new office, located across from Station 55 on Bank Road, will open Thursday.

The Vashon Rural Services Center will house the King County Sheriff’s Office and an array of services and programs available on a part-time basis, including King County District Court, the Department of Permitting and Environmental Review, the Community Service Area Program and the Community Service Center, where islanders can pay property taxes, apply for a marriage license and purchase pet licenses, among other county-related business.

The new center was made possible through a partnership between King County and Vashon Island Fire & Rescue (VIFR). King County paid for renovations to the VIFR Association Building in exchange for a long-term lease at favorable rates.

VIFR will retain ownership of the building and will continue to use it on an as-needed basis. In addition, community groups will be able to work through VIFR to schedule the facility for community meetings or other events.

A public grand opening celebration at the Vashon Rural Services Center is planned for late March.
